More robots = less soldiers dying.
From the page: "We don't use a stick and rudder. You just look at a screen and click, and it does what you tell it to," the official says. "Why pay for a pilot to go to college and flight school when you can use an 18- or 19-year-old guy from basic training?"
Teenagers who've played video games for years can now be pilots. Those slackers are good for something after all! :P

What a sad state of affairs. They may be in a temporary lull in the battle but I can imagine that ending. We need more than band-aids and surface agreements. Peace begins inside each and everyone of the people in positions of power.

Ignoring the poppies: Good idea! It would be like soldiers coming here to Canada and destroying our grain crops and our livestock. Opium is their livelyhood!

On another note... How long have we been "fighting" the Taliban? Aren't they supposed to be some rag tag group with old technology wearing dresses? One word comes to mind: Incompetence. I might bite my tongue later for that, oh well.

The Law of Requisite Variety: "The larger the variety of actions available to a control system, the larger the variety of perturbations it is able to compensate." It's often the forces that are most outnumbered that will in a state of desperation, turn to anything that can give them an edge.
Army Enlists Anthropology in War Zones - New York Times

At the time of the review this news is old althouh still relevant. The army is using Anthropologists as a cultural filter to help them do their job in new, quicker, and more precise ways. Some argue this will give a bad name to anthropology as a whole while others, including the soldiers, seem to praise these culural-scientists for their insight that allows them to have a new peace of mind and do their job better.
